Alien Mugshots is a project surrounding the ideas of cyberspace, fantasy and hybridity. The inspiration came from my reflection as a millennial, where we are frequently exposed to internet cultures and virtual worlds. Inspiration comes from playing video games as a common pastime activity and as a gateway for escapism.
These monster heads are born from my experience of playing the action-adventure survival game No Man’s Sky, where players embark on a space voyage and explore different planets. I am especially fascinated by the aesthetic of the aliens, which essentially are mixtures and exaggerations of real-life animals and textures. They are mysterious yet somehow familiar. Hence this project is about exploring the imagination and creating my own version of alien life.
